HOW TO COOK A DUCK – period comedy
Second draft
HOW TO COOK A DUCK is a comedic reflection on aging and the desire to maintain an active, purposeful life.
Set during the final year of the Second World War, three retired British military officers escape from the drab confines of their retirement home in England and sail to Nazi-occupied France to save a nephew who has gone missing in combat. Meanwhile, the nephew escapes France and returns to England to find the men have left. He then sneaks back into France where he finds them living extravagantly at one of the men’s ancestral châteaux.
As the nephew plots their safe return to England, the three older Brits thwart and sabotage his every move. Instead, they invest in a fabricated reality and believe they are under Nazi surveillance; always one good meal, and one good night’s rest, away from being captured.
Later that summer, when the Nazi’s retreat and France is liberated, the men are forced to confront their delusion and face the end of their life’s last grand adventure.
